Tapenade (Olive Spread)
This is a really simple dish to prepare and it’s always a big hit at parties. My father recommends:
"Make this the night before so that the flavors have time to blend. Just bring it up to room temperature before you serve it. In the winter, try serving it warm."
Ingredients
1 8oz. jar sundried tomatoes
2 large garlic cloves
2/3 c. kalamata olives
1 t. capers
Instructions
Combine tomatoes and garlic in a food processor. Blend until as smooth as possible.
Add capers and olives. Pulse the motor a few times until they are incorporated, but still retain some
texture.
Serve on thin toast rounds with goat cheese and fresh basil garnish (optional).

9. Table Challenge
Pay attention to the spans and border colors.
Start with the basic structure:
How many rows you may need?
<table>
<tr></tr>
<tr></tr>
<tr></tr>
<tr></tr>
<tr></tr>
</table>
Then start with the first row and create content (td and th) and any possible span:
The first cell (the one in the top-left corner) spans down the height of two rows, so it gets a rowspan attribute.
I’ll use a th here to keep it consistent with the rest of the row. This cell has no content:
<table>
<tr>
<th rowspan="2"></th>
</tr>
The cell in the second column of the first row spans over the width of two columns, so it gets a colspan attribute:
<table>
<tr>
<th rowspan="2"></th>
<th colspan="2">Catering Menu</th>
</tr>
The cell in the third column has been spanned over by the colspan we just added, so we don’t need to include it in the markup.
The cell in the fourth column also spans down two rows:
<table>
<tr>
<th rowspan="2"></th>
<th colspan="2">Catering Menu</th>
<th rowspan="2">Kids</th>
</tr>
Now it’s your turn. Continue filling in the th and td elements for the remaining four rows of the table.
Here’s a hint: the first and last cells in the second row have been spanned over. Also, if it’s bold, make it a header.
There is no tfoot in this table.
There are two column groups: one column for headers, the rest for data.

10. CSS
Selector / Declaration
selector { property: value; }
h1 { color: green; }
strong { color: red; font-style: italic; }
p { property: value; }
Example:
h2 { color: red;
font-size: 2em;
margin-left: 30px;
opacity: .5;
}
________________________________________________
11. CSS Comments
/* comment goes here */
Example:
body {
font-size: small;/* Call designer to fix the typo */
}

12. Adding Styles to the Document
___1. Embedded style sheets
<head>
<title>Black Café Restaurant</title>
<style>
/* style rules go here */
</style>
</head>
___2. Inline styles
<p style="font-size: large;">Our organic salad...</p>
You can add multiple properties by separating them with semicolons:
<h3 style="color: red; margin-top: 30px;">Lunch Menu</h3>
___3. External Style Sheets
Link OR import
Via link element in HTML:
<head>
<title>Black Café Restaurant</title>
<link rel="stylesheet" href="/path/example.css">
</head>
OR
Via @import rule in a style sheet:
<head>
<title>Black Café Restaurant</title>
<style>
@import url("/path/example.css");
p {font-face: Verdana;}
</style>
</head>
